The Spring Conservation of Succulents

　　　For many succulents, spring is a season of nutrient reserves. So what special care do succulents need in spring?

　　　Watering. Succulents are drought tolerant, but they do need water. Succulents demand a large number of water in the growing period. At this point they roots spread rapidly in the ground. Watering frequency should follow “if they do not need water, then do not water them; if you water them, then water enough.”
　　　Repotting. After a period of growth, the volume of succulents on the ground will double and underground roots will cover the pelvic floor. At this time you need to replace a larger pot to provide more breathing and growing space for roots. Materials with good permeability are suitable for pots, such as pottery.
　　　Root pruning. During the growth, roots of succulents will inevitably be dead and infected by bacteria, then you need to trim off those black or even empty sick or dead ones. You should also appropriately trim away laterals which are too long or winding seriously to promote the growth of new roots. Plants after pruning should be set in the shade for a few days, ensuring the full healing of wound before re-basin.
　　　Soil displacement. Soil may be hardened after a long time, whose air and water permeability will deteriorate and the fertility will exhaust. Soil displacement ensures nutrient supply and improves the growth environment of succulents’ roots.
